Installing and Activating Network Licenses

Purpose

Using the Artlantis License Manager enables you to launch Artlantis on a specific number of client computers connected to a network.

At an instant, Artlantis can be launched on a number of client workstations simultaneously (where "x" is the number of workstations with licenses). Once it is launched on x number of workstations, Artlantis will not launch on any additional workstations without first closing it on one of the workstations where it is open.

Requirements

  • A network with Mac and/or PC workstations connected.
  • A specific "Network" serial number.

Installation

Install and validate the license either via the Internet (recommended) or manually. The server can be any computer connected to the network. It is recommended to select a computer that is connected to the Internet.

Running Artlantis clients on a sub-network

  • If the Server is running and the message No KeyServer found is displayed on the client computer, it is probably because the client is on a sub-network.
  • In this case, click on the Manual Server Address tab. You will be prompted to enter the IP address of the server.
  • Then click on the KeyServer button.

NOTE: This operation must be performed on every Artlantis client in the sub-network. The IP address of the server can be read in the Artlantis License Manager's KeyServer for Artlantis tab.

Potential Problem

  • If Artlantis prompts you to enter a serial number on a client workstation: Check that the computer is connected to the local network. Check that the Artlantis License Manager has been started on the server.
  • For Server workstations, the standard Mac firewall settings should pose no problem. If this turns out not to be the case, manually open UDP in the "Terminal" application by using the command "sudo ipfw add allow udp from any to any 50150 in". You will be prompted to enter the administrator password. In Mac OS X 10.6, you can unblock the port when the System invites you to do so.
  • For Client workstations, the Firewall settings have to be changed. Select System preferences > Security > Firewall and add the Artlantis application to unblock incoming connections.

NOTE: Changing this setting does not affect the security of the Mac or the operation of other software.
