ArchiCAD 18: Technical Bulletin Update 2014.05 | Known Limitations/Problems and its possible work-arounds

Hi Bim Wizards!

ArchiCAD 18 News Update courtesy of Kezer Csaba, GraphisoftHQ Tech Support:

You might find it useful to know about limitations/problems of the features introduced with ArchiCAD 18 and their possible work-arounds:

CineRender

Dev. TT #172163

Issue:
Rendering an object with grass material and with standard engine with the grass effect turned on in the render settings, the closer you zoomed on the object, the sparser the grass blades will be on the rendered.

Cause:
Rendering engine related issue

Solution/Workaround:
It is planned to be fixed with the update of the render engine, which is expected in version 19

Dev. TT #171553

Issue:
In case of surfaces using the Grass channel, on the surface preview the colour of the blade is always black. It is displayed correctly both on the texture preview and in the final rendering

Cause:
Rendering engine related issue

Solution/Workaround:
It will be fixed with the update of the render engine, which is expected in version 19

Library

Dev. TT #172588

Issue:
D/W Marker: The length of the Extension line changes when the Marker head is turned off, but its cannot be modified manually

Cause:
The hotspot is missing from the end of the line

Solution/Workaround:
It can be set in the Marker Settings, or ID should be turned off temporarily so a hotspot appears at the end of the line

Interoperability

Dev. TT #172091

Issue:
If quantity type information is mapped into an IFC Property, its value will not be displayed within the IFC Properties on the Element Selection Settings dialog (Tags and Categories tab). For example instead of the actual
volume of the wall, ‘<Net Volume>’ is displayed:

Cause: Current technical limitations result in that if the size of the element changes via its Selection Settings dialog,
these changes are only implemented when clicking OK. So the dialog could not show up-to-date quantity information all the time

Solution/Workaround: IFC Manager displays and the exported IFC file contains the correct quantity value

Dev. TT #176442

Issue:
Similarly to quantities, if the layer name of the element is mapped into an IFC Property, instead of the actual layer name, ‘<layer>’ will be displayed within the IFC Properties on the Element Selection Settings dialog (Tags
and Categories tab)

Solution/Workaround:
IFC Manager displays and the exported IFC file contains the correct layer name

Dev. TT #176445

Issue:
If you import an IFC scheme via IFC Scheme Setup (e.g.: COBie, Concept Design, Standard IFC 2x3) your previous mapping rules will be lost. Properties without mapping but with values by user input are kept as custom properties

Cause:
The Import function fully exchanges the current property scheme to the new one

Solution/Workaround:
If you use mapping rules and you want to keep them you can use Merge instead of Import. It is also suggested exporting an XML file from IFC Scheme Setup, so in case of problems you can import the rules back

PDF

Dev. TT #167016

Issue:
Fill with hairline pen weight is not saved as pattern into PDF on Windows

Cause:
Hairline pens can’t be saved as symbol fills (there is no real hairline on Mac)

Solution/Workaround:
Use a pen with not 0 pen weight to export symbol fills as pdf

Dev. TT #168846

Issue:
Newly created attributes don't disappear after undoing PDF explode

Cause:
Attributes aren’t deleted after undoing a merge, explode command

Solution/Workaround:
Re-apply the attribute set used in an earlier state of the project
